Detailed Copper Wall Platter

An astonishing copper platter comprising of intricately detailed animals, symbols and either Hindu or Buddhist deities. I particularly love the lizards and crab and it also features fish, lions, frogs and bees. each with their own spiritual meaning. Represented is transformation (frogs), courage (lions), life and rebirth (bees), divine communication (lizards) and healing (crabs). What appears to be a deity, possibly the female goddess Saraswati (Hindu) or Green Tara (Buddhism) sits at the very centre of the image, surrounded by animals big and small.

One animal is missing from the bottom edge of the dish and the back has lost a foot so it has been turned into a hanging plate at some point in it’s history. Each element is individually riveted to the plate. A couple of the outer creatures can spin but are still securely attached.

Likely made to be used as an alms plate.

One of similar origin and same design sits as part of the Franz Ferdinand collection at the Weltmuseum Wien in Vienna.
